Major Retailers Reportedly Pulling Xbox Consoles and Games from Shelves

Last month, one of the world’s largest retailers, Costco, confirmed it would no longer sell Xbox consoles. Now, reports suggest that other major chains may be taking similar steps.

Several Reddit users claiming to work at Target and Walmart have reported that both retailers are removing their Xbox stock in significant quantities.

“On Wednesday, the Target I work for removed all Xbox games, and I’m pretty sure it’s happening store-wide,” wrote user u/Jawwaad127. “All the games have been discontinued and will likely go on clearance.”

Another user, u/CodeE1985, shared photos showing empty shelves where Xbox products once were. “My local Target is getting rid of their Xbox section,” they alleged. “The electronics manager says they’ll no longer carry systems, games, or accessories. He also said all Targets in the Kansas City area are purging Xbox stock.”

A similar claim came from a Walmart employee posting as u/Spacefox_85: “We’re remodeling our store, and the new electronics layout has no space for Xbox games. Switch and PlayStation will share a single lock case each. In the year or so I’ve been here, I can count on one hand the number of Xbox games I’ve sold.”

Target’s Online Listings Reflect Limited Xbox Availability

Browsing Target’s website confirms these reports, at least in some regions. In Kansas City, for instance, the North store shows only a single Xbox Series S console available, a handful of controllers, and limited stock on a few titles such as Doom: The Dark Ages.

By contrast, PlayStation and Nintendo shelves appear well-stocked. There’s an abundance of PS5 and Switch consoles, controllers, and accessories—there are even more PlayStation Portals available than Xbox consoles. Random checks at other locations, including Washington Square, reveal a similar trend, showing a clear disparity in Xbox availability compared to its competitors.
