Pixel 10 users are reporting widespread app crashes following the October update. The issue appears to primarily affect Pixel 10 Pro models. A temporary workaround involving Google Play Services exists but may be risky to try.
Pixel 10 October Update Causing Major App Crashes
Google’s October Pixel update is off to a rocky start. Just a week after its release, multiple Pixel 10 owners are flooding Reddit with complaints about constant app crashes and freezes. Early reports suggest the Pixel 10 Pro is bearing the brunt of the issue, though users of the standard Pixel 10 are also beginning to experience similar problems as the update rolls out more broadly.
One Reddit user described the issue succinctly:
“After the October update, all apps have started to crash randomly or just get stuck at the splash screen. I’ve tried multiple reboots, but it’s still the same issue.”
Others echoed these frustrations, with one user sharing:
“I just started experiencing this yesterday. It’s frustrating. If an app does open and load, it won’t let me touch anything before it crashes.”
The discussion thread continues to grow rapidly, filled with dozens of users reporting identical symptoms — apps refusing to launch, freezing mid-use, or crashing without warning.
A Risky Temporary Workaround
Amid the mounting complaints, one user claims to have found a partial fix. The workaround involves rolling back updates for Google Play Services and the Play Store after installing the Android OS October update.
“The solution I found was to update to the Android OS October update, then uninstall the Google Play Services and Google Play Store updates,” the user explained.
“Uninstalling the Play Services update will sign you out of all your Google accounts, so make sure you have secondary passkeys set up beforehand. No crashes since doing this. My theory is that the October Play Services update conflicts with the September Android OS update somehow.”
While this solution reportedly resolves the crashes for some, it’s a risky approach. Removing updates for Google Play Services can disrupt essential device functions, affect app behavior, or cause other unexpected issues. Even worse, some users reported that the crashes eventually returned despite reverting Play Services.
Google Yet to Respond
As of now, Google hasn’t issued any official statement addressing the issue. However, given the scale of these reports, a patch or Play Services update is likely on the way. Until then, Pixel 10 owners — especially those with the Pro variant — may want to hold off on applying the October update if they haven’t installed it yet.
