Microsoft is rolling out a major update to Copilot for Windows, transforming the AI assistant into a unified hub for productivity by connecting directly with both personal and third‑party cloud services. The feature is now live for Windows Insiders, marking a significant step toward making Copilot a truly cross‑account digital assistant.
Unified Cloud Access
With the new integration system, users can link services such as OneDrive, Outlook, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts to Copilot. Once connected, the assistant can pull up relevant information across multiple platforms in response to natural language queries.
This means you can:
- Ask Copilot to locate an old email without opening your inbox.
- Retrieve meeting details stored in Google Calendar.
- Find specific notes or files in any connected cloud drive.
The integration is optional and can be activated via the Connectors section in Copilot’s settings, allowing users to decide exactly which accounts to link. According to Microsoft, the goal is to break down data silos and streamline information access across devices and ecosystems.
Smarter File Creation and Export
Beyond search, the update introduces enhanced document creation and export capabilities, extending Copilot’s role into content generation.
Users can now request files in formats such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF directly from chat. Longer responses — over 600 characters — automatically display an “Export” button, making it easy to send AI‑generated material into a preferred format.
For example:
- “Create an Excel file from this table” produces a ready‑to‑edit spreadsheet.
- “Export to Word” instantly converts text into a document.
This feature is designed to save time, reduce repetitive tasks, and make Copilot a seamless part of the workflow.
Available for Windows Insiders
The upgrade is included in Copilot version 1.25095.161.0 and newer, with gradual rollout through the Microsoft Store to all Insider channels. Microsoft is actively gathering user feedback to fine‑tune the experience ahead of a broader public release.
By bridging multiple apps, accounts, and devices through AI‑driven automation and intelligent search, this update pushes Copilot closer to becoming the central productivity layer of Windows.
