If you’re the kind of reader who picks up a book after a few days away and immediately wonders, “Wait—what’s going on again?”, Amazon’s latest Kindle Scribe has the fix.
At a New York event on Tuesday, Amazon unveiled new AI-powered Kindle Scribe models featuring a tool called Story So Far. The feature delivers a brief, spoiler-free recap of the chapters you’ve already read, refreshing your memory before you dive back in. It’s a simple, clever idea—and one that might even tempt die-hard paper book fans to reconsider e-readers.
According to an Amazon representative, the summaries are designed to avoid any spoilers, focusing only on key plot points to help readers get back up to speed. The concise recaps, typically half to a full page long, are available exclusively for Kindle books. No more flipping back through chapters to recall who betrayed whom or which city the protagonist fled to.
The update also introduces another AI tool, Ask This Book, which offers deeper insights as you read. By highlighting a passage, readers can ask contextual questions—like what a character’s motivation might be or why a particular scene matters—and get spoiler-free interpretations right on the page.
The new Kindle Scribe starts at $500 and is available for preorder now.
