Android Auto version 15.2 is causing trouble for one of its most useful features — the Quick Controls widget. This shortcut bar lets users manage media playback and view navigation directions while running other apps, but after the latest update, it’s suddenly stopped working as intended.
Reports spotted by 9to5Google show Reddit and Google forum users complaining that Quick Controls can no longer be toggled on in settings. Previously, you could turn it on if you missed having playback or navigation controls handy while multitasking. Now, that toggle has disappeared entirely, hinting that Google might be preparing to remove the feature altogether.
Interestingly, Quick Controls still function for some users who have displays with a horizontal taskbar. But on devices with a vertical one, it’s broken — suggesting the issue might be display-format related rather than a full removal just yet.
This change follows Google’s recent decision to deprecate GameSnacks in Android Auto’s beta builds. Between GameSnacks’ shutdown and Quick Controls breaking, it seems Google is cleaning house on older or less-used components of Android Auto.
For now, Quick Controls isn’t completely gone — but it’s on shaky ground. If you rely on those handy bottom-bar shortcuts, it might be time to brace for another feature quietly disappearing from Android Auto.
