If you’re eyeing a new MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, or Apple Vision Pro, it might be wise to wait just a bit longer. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple could unveil M5-powered versions of all three devices as soon as this week.
What to Expect from Apple’s M5 Announcements
Just like last year, Apple is likely to roll out these updates gradually over the coming days — either through press releases or short announcement videos. Based on leaked M5 benchmarks, this new chip promises a modest CPU boost (around 12% faster in single-core performance) but a major leap in graphics power — roughly 36% faster GPU performance.
Here’s what we can expect for each product.
M5 MacBook Pro
This one’s almost a sure thing for October — though availability might vary by model. Gurman confirms the base 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro is “ready for launch,” and production leaks indicate Apple’s gearing up for release soon.
However, those waiting for the higher-tier M5 Pro and M5 Max models may need more patience. Reports suggest these versions might not arrive until early 2026.
Design-wise, don’t expect any major visual changes — this update looks to be focused on performance gains. The real redesign is being saved for next year’s rumored M6 MacBook Pro, which may feature an OLED touchscreen, a thinner chassis, and TSMC’s 2nm chip manufacturing process.
M5 iPad Pro
We’ve already seen glimpses of the M5 iPad Pro in a leaked unboxing video from Russia, so its launch appears imminent. Though it will likely share the same design as last year’s M4 model, Apple is reportedly making the new iPad Pro “more Pro” than ever.
The main upgrades include:
- A faster M5 chip offering significantly improved graphics for rendering and gaming.
- A 33% increase in base RAM (from 8GB to 12GB).
- Possibly two front-facing cameras instead of one — though this detail remains unconfirmed.
If that last feature proves true, it would greatly enhance video calls in both portrait and landscape orientations.
M5 Apple Vision Pro
After months of rumors, the Apple Vision Pro 2 finally appears ready to debut — and it’s shaping up to be a much-needed upgrade. Moving from the M2 to the M5 chip is expected to bring major performance improvements across the board, thanks to more powerful CPU cores and a substantially faster GPU with hardware-accelerated ray tracing.
Apple may also include an updated R2 chip to handle sensor input more efficiently, resulting in smoother spatial computing experiences.
While this won’t be a full redesign — Apple has reportedly paused development on a completely new Vision Pro model in favor of lighter smart glasses — there will still be some thoughtful updates. The improved Dual Knit Band should make the headset more comfortable, and a new Space Black color option could debut as well.
What’s Not Expected
As for everything else on Apple’s rumor list — such as the M5 Mac mini, M5 iMac, or new Apple TV 4K — things are a bit unclear. Given the MacBook Pro’s update, it’s surprising we haven’t heard more about those. Still, Apple could slip in a quiet mention of them alongside the MacBook Pro announcement.
Don’t expect any new HomePod or Apple TV models this year, though — those are reportedly being saved for early 2026.
