Battlefield 6 has stormed onto Steam’s all-time charts, securing the 14th spot among the platform’s most-played games ever—measured by peak concurrent players—within just 24 hours of its release.
The explosive debut eclipsed not only its own free-to-play open beta but also the peak player counts of heavyweight rivals like Call of Duty. With a staggering 747,440 concurrent players in a single day—on Steam alone—EA’s flagship shooter has officially become the most successful Battlefield entry in history.
To put that into perspective, Battlefield 6’s concurrency surpasses Apex Legends, Marvel Rivals, and Destiny 2. The game has also dominated Steam’s top-seller chart, with one industry analyst estimating over $100 million in pre-launch sales. And that success isn’t just about numbers—feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with 78% of the 25,000+ Steam user reviews rating the experience favorably.
That triumph came despite the growing pains of launch day. Players faced long queues as servers hit capacity, a scenario the development team had anticipated. Lead producer David Sirland revealed that the open beta—where nearly 250,000 players waited in queues—was instrumental in preparing for the influx.
In our review, we praised Battlefield 6 as delivering “a thrilling multiplayer reset and a competent, if somewhat familiar, single-player campaign.” Yet, questions remain about the identity of the franchise and what truly makes Battlefield unique.
One thing’s certain—the series has found its strongest footing in years, and Battlefield 6’s launch has set a benchmark for multiplayer shooters on the PC platform.
