We could see the next generation of MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models arrive as early as the end of this year—or by the first quarter of 2026.
Apple may be preparing to shake up its usual release schedule. Traditionally, the company unveils new MacBook Pro models in October or November, while the MacBook Air tends to get its refresh in the spring. But this year might be different. If the ongoing rumors about Apple’s next-generation M5 chips prove true, both the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air could debut around the same time.
What to Expect from the M5 Macs
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to launch M5-powered MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs between late 2025 and early 2026. The update appears to be an incremental one rather than a major overhaul. The MacBook Pro will reportedly retain its 14- and 16-inch options, while the Air will continue to come in 13- and 15-inch versions.
For most users, the 15-inch MacBook Air still strikes the best balance between performance, portability, and price. However, those hoping for the latest wireless connectivity might be disappointed—Apple is expected to stick with Wi-Fi 6E rather than adopting the newer Wi-Fi 7 standard just yet.
Before the MacBooks: iPad Pro and Vision Pro Updates
Before the new M5 MacBooks arrive, Gurman suggests the M5 chip will make its first appearance in the next iPad Pro lineup, which could launch as soon as the end of this month. Additionally, Apple is expected to refresh the Apple Vision Pro headset later this fall with a faster chip and an updated strap for improved comfort.
For budget-conscious buyers, there’s more good news. Apple is reportedly working on a lower-cost MacBook Air priced around $599, targeted for a late 2025 or early 2026 release. If true, it would make Apple’s laptops more accessible to students and entry-level users.
Looking Ahead: The M6 and Beyond
The next major redesign of the MacBook Pro isn’t expected until late 2026, coinciding with the debut of the M6 chip. That update is rumored to introduce a touchscreen OLED display, a sleeker chassis, and other design changes that could finally modernize the MacBook’s look and feel.
Meanwhile, Apple also plans to update its external display lineup. A new Apple Studio Display is reportedly scheduled for release in the first half of 2026—marking the first major update to the monitor since its 2022 debut.
